The online sports contest on the national game togyzkumalak gathered 90 best players of Nazarbayev Intellectual schools from all regions of the country. In the three-day fight, the participants competed in three age categories.
Miras Dayyrov and Nursara Tulegenova won prizes among the students of grades 3-6.
The youngest participant of the tournament, Nursara, is 9 years old. Togyzkumalak game was taught by her father. The young contestant believes that it is important for every Kazakh to be able to play the national game.
Togyzkumalak is one of the oldest Kazakh national games. The tabletop pair game is designed to develop logical mathematical thinking, logic, ingenuity and endurance.
“The more young students learn to play togyzkumalak, the more we will be able to preserve our spiritual heritage and pass on traditions from generation to generation” says another participant, a 10th grade student Nursaule Esbol.
