Today the International School of Astana hosted a festive event marking the Day of Knowledge. According to tradition, on this day, a dedication of preschool children to Grade 1 students was held. Also, the following young specialists entered the ranks of the school’s staff in a solemn atmosphere: Ms Nazira Shabdenova, a chemistry teacher and Nazarbayev University graduate, and Ms Zhadyra Sapargazinova, a physical training teacher, who graduated from the Abai KazNPU this year. They received commemorative badges symbolizing ‘entry into the profession’ on behalf of the ‘Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools’ autonomous educational organization. The whole ceremony was accompanied by a diverse concert programme, including a dance routine – flashmob titled the same as the event itself: “Bolashak kilti – zhastarda” with an attribute as a huge key. At the beginning of a second grand meeting the Director for Academic Issues of the ‘Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools’ AEO, Ms Aigul Kazzhanova delivered an opening speech. She congratulated the audience and noted that the organization is proud of students of the network of Intellectual schools and wished the students who were present at the meeting to meet the high standard set previously.

– I am particularly happy to welcome our new students and newly arrived teachers. We all look very much forward to working with them in the coming years. We anticipate utilising their talents for the benefit of our school. Having gained the IB Primary Years Programme school status and as a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme, we wish to keep providing the best educational results further with the effort and help of our outstanding school community. So let this new school year be successful and productive, said Mr Bauyrzhan Uzakbay, the School’s Principal, in his welcome speech.

A major event of the day was a film showing, which was dedicated to the programme article of the President: “The Course towards Future: Modernization of Public Conscience”. The film was broadcast as part of the forum titled “Under One Shanyrak” in the assembly hall where students of Grades 6-9 got acquainted with new projects of Nazarbayev Intellectual schools aimed at implementing the programme assignments of the Head of State. For example, thanks to the “100 New Persons of Kazakhstan” Project, students will now be able to learn about people who have made significant contributions to the development of their region and into creating a favourable image of their school, whose life story and success inspire many people.

At the same time, so called “curatorial hours” were held across the school on the topic: “I am a patriot of my country” for students in lower grades. During the classes, teachers, parents and students discussed the ideological basis of the new Kazakh patriotism. The goal was to build a sense of students’ civic responsibility in preserving the historical heritage and strengthening the independence of the state and transforming the idea of Kazakhstani patriotism into a life principle.
