The safety of children throughout the school year became a crucial point of discussion today. The International School of Astana arranged a seminar on protecting people against terrorism by inviting experts of the Specialized Training Center of the Association of Security Organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The guests, namely Mr Alexander Sossorbarlayev, police colonel, in his opening remarks emphasized the need for enhancing the skills and competencies of the school staff towards mitigating the risks involved in terrorist attacks because large sets of communities like this school are always at the greatest risk of being targeted. Then a film by Roman Shestakov, telling about tips on countering terrorists’ use of explosives, how to behave during threats of terrorism and identify evacuation routes and opportunities, was shown on the main screen of the school in the assembly hall. During the event teachers asked a number of thoughtful questions and expressed great interest in self-defence tactics.

The moderator addressed the participants in the closing session, stressing the importance of greater vigilance, awareness, and coordination in managing risks associated with terrorism activities.
